ABOUT ME
Jay has been playing music since the age of eight. Starting on the trumpet, Jay learnt a lot about music from playing in orchestras and brass bands, including the Hampshire County Youth Band.
Since age twelve, Jay has also been playing drums and percussion in orchestras and rock bands, playing covers and writing original music. Jay has always enjoyed performing with bands and has played in numerous pubs, clubs, bars, concert halls and festivals across England and Europe.
Jay has been lucky enough to play at the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury Festival
Jay studied music at School, College and University, gaining grade eight in both drums and trumpet and an Honours Degree in Music. Jay also studied on the Master Performance course at London's Drumtech.
For the past twelve years Jay has been living, teaching and performing in Devon. Jay is a well established private tutor, having taught students from the age of eight to eighty across a wide range of musical styles and abilities, from complete begginers to working musicians, as well as helping other drum tutors with technique, music reading and theory knowledge.
Jay is currently the Head of Drums at the Academy of Music and Sound in Exeter, where he is also the Lead Tutor.
Jay is currently writing and performing with Tatty Hat, the Laura Loft Trio and the Locked Horns Big Band
